Earlier this month, I crossed another destination off my bucket list – Alaska. Specifically, the cruise to Alaska, a seven day adventure by sea to the 49th state and British Columbia. Although I had never been on cruise before, many people assured me that it was truly unforgettable. Two girlfriends and I decided to make it our summer trip an hit the Internet to book tickets. With zero experience on cruises we picked a ship – the Holland America Westerdam, due to its great reviews and budget-friendliness, and hoped for the best.
What we got was the trip of a lifetime. Every minute of our seven days aboard the ship, and ashore in the ports, was jam-packed and exhilarating. At the risk of turning this blog into a promotion for the HA Westerdam, I will get my praise out of the way now:
Every aspect of this trip was incredible and a huge portion of that was due to the amazing crew and staff. Unfailingly polite, helpful, courteous, and hospitable, everyone from the cleaning staff to the kitchen staff was top-notch. Hygiene was taken very seriously (a big relief!), with hand sanitizer offered everywhere and extremely clean facilities. The food, even in the Lido deck buffet, was delicious, nutritious and varied. There were activities and classes scheduled for every hour of the day and I only regret not being able to do everything! There were multiple live entertainment shows each day, from a piano bar to a blues band to a song and dance group. The entertainment quality was above and beyond expectations and we had a blast every night. Really an incredible value for the money and I am planning to take my family on this same cruise next summer!
The rest of this series will focus on highlights of the individual ports we visited. Enjoy! (And go book your own Alaskan cruise right now!)
